Beachbody: A Fitness Platform That Gets Results

The Brief

Beachbody, one of the leading US fitness companies, is known for its massively successful fitness programs like P90X and 21 Day Fix and its Shakeology brand. Its secret sauce, however, is its network of 350,000 direct sales representatives called Coaches. Coaches not only sell Beachbody products, but are brand ambassadors who work directly with customers to help them achieve their fitness goals.  

The Challenge

Beachbody found that the most successful Coaches were hosting online ‘Challenge Groups’ where customers shared stories, challenges, and victories. The customers in these groups reported greater results, were more likely to continue using the Beachbody products, and more frequently became Coaches themselves.  

The company saw tremendous opportunity in bringing Challenge Groups, which were scattered across multiple online platforms, into the Beachbody ecosystem. To achieve this, they partnered with Whitespectre to create 'My Challenge Tracker', a group engagement and fitness platform that includes an IOS app, Android app, and web-app for the Coach Portal.

The solution

Working hand-in-hand with the Executive Sales and Product team through discovery, design, and development, we created the "My Challenge Tracker" experience; The IOS and Android apps centralized Coaches’ conversations with their teams and customers, and combined it with fitness tracking, all in one, easy to use platform. The complementary Coach portal helped Coaches manage their groups at scale and provided them with key insight's into their participants progress and engagement. The backend APIs ensured that all the data flowed seamlessly across the experiences and back into Beachbody's data warehouse, providing the company with new, essential insights into customer engagement and trends.

Starting from an initial beta through to supporting peak traffic levels of over hundreds of thousands of daily users, we evolved and maintained "My Challenge Tracker" over multiple years. In addition to optimizing the core tracking tools and Coach Portal, we also built out video engagement features, expanded to multiple countries and languages, and integrated with Beachbody On Demand to create auto-tracking features tied to video views from the BOD fitness programs.  Across that time, the apps boasted a 4.5+ rating on both IOS and Android
