Web 2.0 Rails eCommerce applications

These sites exploit the enhancements to the user interface that Web 2.0 technologies offer. AJAX, the Javascript Prototype libraries and dynamic CSS contribute to a slick interface design, all powered by the agile web development framework of Ruby on Rails with a MySQL database.

Postermeister (www.postermeister.co.uk)

An eCommerce site to sell funky posters in the UK. The site is based around a poster browser, supporting smooth zooming and scrolling on all of the posters. An AJAX shopping cart updates without requiring a full page refresh as products are added. The "Postermeister Mate" afilliate system drives viral marketing and tracks referrals, issues discounts and acrues poster credits for Mates. Comprehensive access statistics help track the ROI of advertising campaigns.
Distinctions Tableware (www.distinctionstableware.com)

A bilingual English/Spanish eCommerce site to sell alfresco tableware in Almeria, Spain. The site has a searchable catalogue, browsable by product type. Larger images are viewed in-page with a dynamic "lightbox" effect. An AJAX shopping cart adds product images as products are selected. The checkout is integrated with PayPal credit card clearing to accept payment. The shop's admin display is designed to integrate with their order fullfillment process.
Mapping the Streets (www.mappingthestreets.org)

The first international conference of the world of street arts with an aim to plot the origins of street art across the globe. The conference was based around a "timeline" of events. The system drew together multi-lingual data from web-based input and generated a timeline in real-time. Event density is displayed graphically, supporting drilling down into the data, with secondary AJAX timelines and expandable details down to event level. Conference delegate management, including payment clearing was also integrated.

eCommerce database driven projects

Using the well established web technologies, these sites use PHP and Perl scripting, databases and payment gateway integration to generate a shopping experience to visitors.

photoTrails (www.phototrails.eu)

An attractive, photographically rich site for photography holidays based from Velez Blanco, Andalucia. The web design reflects the richness and diversity of the area. The site has a online booking system with availablity management and ecommerce integration with PayPal to accept payments for the holidays. The client area of the website supports multiple private galleries for their clients.
Graphic Art Collective (www.graphicartcollective.co.uk)

Graphic Art Collective is a new gallery which presents self-initiated work by commercial designers to the UK art-buying market. We worked closely with the graphic design agency to develop the bespoke eCommerce site to sell the artwork. The artwork is available in a variety of sizes and frame combinations and the shop automatically calculates these accordingly. Payment clearing is through the WorldPay gateway.

Database driven projects

These sites use custom scripting in Perl and PHP to present data from MySQL databases tailored to the requests of the site visitors.

Jardin Property (www.jardinproperty.com)
Estate Agents Jardin is a truly Spanish company based in the town of Velez Rubio, Almeria, Spain. WhiteSpectre designed the branding - for print in addition to web - the new brand can be seen on six meter signs thoughout Velez Rubio! The property database and other site content is available in both Spanish and English and is administered through the web from multiple office locations by the company.
Screendaze (www.screendaze.com)

This site gives visitors the opportunity to review movies, read the comments of others and suggest films to be included as screenings at the Glasgow Film Theatre. WhiteSpectre supported the design agency by providing the bespoke development for film database, review management and user login/authentication system. All reviews pass through profanity filters and an admin moderation system before being published.

A family run Spanish estate agency with a massive database of properties for sale in the locality of Velez Rubio, Velez Blanco, Maria and Chirivel - Almeria, Spain. WhiteSpectre provided an end-to-end service including graphic design, custom database development, powerful search facilities for a bilingual site and hosting services. The site is administered though a secure web-based admin. The site was highly optimised for search engines.

Kangaroo Maths provides learning resources for education under licence agreements. They used our technical design and implemention capability to provide a system that supported on-the-fly branding of pdf and.htm resources, based on individual or group access rights. The user database supports administrative functions in line with their business model. Our system was built to support simple cosmetic customisation to integrate with their design.
niris.org (www.niris.org)

Niris.org was developed for the use of Sheffield University Nightline, a confidential listening service for students. It provides an intelligent, interactive rota system, for encouraging and recording sign-ups for duties. Based on the experience level of the member, past history and editable rule criteria the rota view is customised on a per-user basis. The system also prompts members to sign-up for empty days by sending targeted SMS text messages. A full file storage and distribution mechanism is also included.

Static HTML sites with key content management

Elements of these sites, identified as of particular importance to the site owners can be updated through web-based administration. These utilise a mixture of Perl and PHP technologies.

Construcciones Sierra De Bedar (www.bedarconstruction.com)

A bilingual site for an established Spanish Constructions company in Bedar, Almeria. Whitespectre developed their brand from their existing logo and built a site to showcase some of their work. A content management module was included to allow the office to update properties that they may have to rent or sell.
Rio Prestige - performance car hire (www.rioprestige.com)

Rio Prestige Performance (UK) Ltd allow you to hire a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Koenigsegg, Porche, Aston Martin or other high performance sports car or supercar in the UK. WhiteSpectre provided the database backend to host their competition and content management system as well as performing Search Engine Optimisation, submission and reporting services.

Static HTML sites

Online brochure style sites for an initial web-presence. This kind of site effectively supplements other forms of advertising by providing additional detail that simply cannot be included. Contact forms are included to encourage enquiries through to the site owners.

We built a clean and effective static site for two independent consultants based in the North of England. We reflected their philosophy ...specialise in development solutions that really work, rather than glossy reports... in a slick but understated design that effectively conveyed their key messages. Porter-Brown have found the site an effective marketing tool and have recently increased their portfolio of case studies included within their site.
